The Story
In 2020, the filmed murder of George Floyd marked a crucial moment in American history. A wave of Americans of all walks had reached their tipping point and sparked the largest protest movement in American history. The Civil Rights Movement of this era, was the culmination of years of frustration poured out in anger and sadness in the demand for justice. While the rallies in major cities nationwide have grabbed headlines, dynamic and compelling stories are found within the smaller, relatively calm cities and towns that are unaccustomed to civil unrest, who have also raised their voices and took action for change.
The Big Hope spirit made its way to Pelham, NY, a small, homogenously white suburban town north of The Bronx, and it left an indelible impact on so many in the community. Anomalously led by its youth and minority population, the community came together in unprecedented fashion to grapple with existential questions of race, history, and culture. We relive what took place during this effervescent time of togetherness, community, communication, and inspiration though the heartfelt reflections, real-time footage and imagery of change agents documented in the moments of progress and building a new legacy.
